Constructed to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the end of WWII. The names of all those who lost their lives in the Battle of Okinawa, regardless of their nationality, or military or civilian status, are inscribed on the stone monuments:148,289 Okinawans; 75,219 Japanese from other prefectures; 14,006 Americans; 82 from the United Kingdom; 28 Taiwanese; 82 North Koreans; and 263 South Koreans. Located within Okinawa Peace Memorial Park.
