St. Louis Cathedral; New Orleans, Louisiana, United States; SEE BACK; IX-NO-15; ST. LOUIS CATHEDRAL, in the heart of New Orleans; French Quarter, is the city's oldest church. The building was erected in the period of 1788-1794, but two fires partially destroyed it and made redesigning necessary. The structure as it stands today dates from 1850. The cathedral is flanked on either side by other historic buildings: The Cabildo, first built in 1795 as an administration building, and the Presbytere, built as a rectory and now serving as a museum.; 24067
