Erected in 1218-1219 on earlier 1166 construction; completed with loggia and roof in 1306-1309. Giotto's fresco cycle in the salone from the early 14th century, destroyed by a fire in 1420 and remade in 1425-1440. Roof and building damaged by tornado on 17 August 1756 and restored within few years
