Notes
SEE BACK; IX-NO-2; LAFITTE THE PIRATE is said to have used this building as his headquarters in New Orleans. To conceal his real activity of smuggling and trading in hijacked slaves, the Lafitte-brothers operated a blacksmith shop here. The cottage is one of the earliest types of New Orleans construction, bricks between cypress posts, and has been restored. It is located at 941 Bourbon Street and has been converted into a bar.
