c. 1888-1889; John Calvin Stevens (1855-1940) and Albert Winslow Cobb (1868-1941); See American Architecture and Building News v. 25 pl.680 and Maine Federal Writers Project (c. 1940), 361-362; Photo taken and donated by George Collins; (Over); This hotel is built at the site of the original inn, Mansion House, which was established in 1796. The inn was a popular nineteenth century resort because of the presence of a spring of unusually fine water nearby, which was believed to have curative properties for a number of ailments. Part of the Mansion House is incorporated in this building.
