Notes: Egptian Obelisk (north) of Sety I & Rameses II from Heliopolis (c. 1300 BCE) was taken by Augustus (10 BCE), originally set up in Circus Maximus. Moved to Piazza del Popolo 1589. The twin churches (south) are Santa Maria dei Miracoli (1681) and Santa Maria in Montesanto (1679), begun by Carlo Rainaldi and completed by Berninia and Carlo Fontana. North of the obelisk lies the gate, Porta del Popolo (reconstructed to Bernini’s design in 1655).
