The tomb was originally built to be the resting place of Abul Hasan Tana Shah, later the last Qutb Shahi king. But he was imprisoned by the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb before it could be finished. Mirza Nizamuddin Ahmad, the son of Sultan Abdullah's son-in-law, is buried here instead.
