Founded in 1390, the work stopped with the death of Antonio di Vincenzo in 1401-1402 to slowly continue until mid-16th century; facade only partly covered in marble by Giacomo Ranuzzi starting from 1538; vaults started in 1587-1594 with design by Francesco Morandi and completed in 1646-1663; competition to complete the facade in 1887 without any realization
