The monastic complex of Mor Augen, or St. Eugenius, is located on the steep cliffs of Tur ‘Abdin near Mardin in the southeast of Turkey. According to local tradition, this is the most ancient monastery in the area; it dates to the early 4th century AD and includes several later additions.
