Sauvagny, Église Saint-Germain-D'Auxerre

Parish of the former diocese of Bourges in the gift of Souvigny. Nave of three bays covered with a pointed barrel vault terminates in a narrower barrel-vaulted choir and eastern apse. The present form of the church probably results from the upgrading of an eleventh century wooden-roofed church in the twelfth century when a vaulted choir was construction and mural arcades and projecting pilasters introduced in the nave to facilitate the construction of a pointed barrel vault. The nave was increased in height at the same time. The church of Autry-Issards offers a very similar situation.
